Part of the terrible aftermath of the Vietnam war has been exodus of more than a million refugees fleeing from communist oppression.While some have fled overland into Thailand,the majority have attempted to escape in small boats across the South China Sea to Indonesia or the Philippines or across the Gulf of Siam to Thailand or Malaysia. It is estimated that some 800,000 have died from exposure,drowning or attacks by pirates while making this perilous voyage.
